Honorary Consulate of Ukraine opens in Narva
Representatives of “Druzi Home” also took part in the 14 October opening
On 14 October, the Honorary Consulate of Ukraine, headed by Allan Kaldoja, was officially opened in Narva. At his invitation, representatives of Sõprade Kodu MTÜ / Druzi Home also took part in the event.
For Ukrainians in Ida-Viru County this is an important event: the region now has a new point of contact for information and help in difficult situations. The consulate’s work includes supporting Ukrainians and developing business ties, cultural projects and exchanges between Ukraine and Estonia.
The opening brought together representatives of diplomatic missions, local authorities, culture, education, business and the Ukrainian community. For us it was a chance to talk about the work of Druzi Home and to make contacts for future work.
We spoke with Allan Kaldoja and agreed to stay in touch. We told the Ambassador of Ukraine to Estonia, Volodymyr Boiechko, about our organisation and invited him to Kohtla-Järve to meet the Ukrainian community. We hope the conversation will continue and that we can discuss issues that matter to Ukrainians in our region.
There is also practical news: the consulate’s premises are planned to host visiting receptions by consuls from Tallinn. The first is expected as early as November. The honorary consulate itself does not issue passports or perform notarial acts; those matters are handled by the consular staff of the Embassy of Ukraine.
We thank Allan Kaldoja for the invitation and his openness to dialogue, and our Estonian friends for their support of Ukraine and our people. We hope the new consulate’s work will help people and give rise to useful joint projects across Ida-Viru County.
